Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical Oncology RN for a night shift assignment at a teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of acute care experience and prior surgical oncology skills.

Details

• Surgical Oncology unit within a 36-bed inpatient department at a Level I trauma teaching hospital
• Cares for patients with known cancer diagnoses undergoing surgical interventions, primarily abdominal or pelvic procedures (gynecologic oncology, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and stomach)
• No chemotherapy or biotherapy administered on this unit, and chemo certification is not required
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, which may flex based on staffing and unit needs
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM), various days of the week
• Weekend shifts required per unit needs
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities based on facility needs
• Uses Epic charting system
• Navy scrub color required

Requirements

• Active CO or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required (hard stop requirement)
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Experience with IV therapy, port access and management, and central line care
• Skilled in symptom management including altered mental status, dysphagia, nausea/vomiting, and constipation/diarrhea
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as sepsis and anaphylaxis
• Experience with post-surgical care, wound care, and ostomy/colostomy management
• Experience with chest tube care, Foley catheter management, and tracheostomy care
• Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
• Experience with pain management including IV push narcotics and PCA pump management
• Oncology Skills Checklist required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide post-operative nursing care to surgical oncology patients working toward discharge milestones
• Deliver patient and family education and psychosocial support, including end-of-life and treatment withdrawal discussions
• Coordinate care across disciplines for complex oncology patients
• First-time travelers accepted, provided they have teaching hospital experience
• Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods during peak census times
• No blocked scheduling requests permitted
• Local candidates accepted, with local rate applying to those residing less than 75 miles from the facility
