Contract | Days | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM | Every other holiday required | 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a 13-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit managing post-surgical, open abdomen, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
  • Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of typically 1:2, with potential for 1:1 or 1:3 depending on acuity
  • Titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
  • Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently; monitor techs are available on the unit
  • Collaborate with intensivists (in-house daytime, tele-medicine and on-call attending overnight), respiratory therapy available 24/7, and support staff including nurse aides at a 1:10 ratio
  • Float to lower levels of care as needed, including Stepdown (up to 3 patients) or general medical units (5–6 patients)

Required Qualifications

  • Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required
  • Prior ICU experience required
  • Level I trauma experience required
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience with ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP in an ICU setting
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records
  • Experience managing complex multi-system or surgical critical care patients
