Registered Nurse – SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Weekend commitment expected (6 weekend shifts per 6-week period) | Every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a 13-bed Surgical ICU setting with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 (may vary to 1:1 or 1:3 based on acuity)
  • Manage complex patient populations including post-surgical, open abdomen, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
  • Titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
  • Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently; monitor techs are available on the unit
  • Collaborate with intensivists, respiratory therapy (available 24/7), charge nurses, and house supervisors to deliver coordinated care
  • Float to lower levels of care as needed, including Stepdown (up to 3 patients) or general medical units (5–6 patients)

Required Qualifications

  • Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required
  • Level I trauma experience
  • Prior ICU nursing experience
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
  • Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate adjustment

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience with ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP in an ICU environment
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system
  • Experience managing complex titratable drip protocols in a high-acuity setting
