Job Summary:
Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) position located in an acute care setting. This role involves providing specialized care to post-surgical, trauma, and critically ill patients within a Level I trauma center. The position requires delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment with a focus on trauma and complex medical cases.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that license application has been initiated; BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association); minimum of 1 year of ICU experience, trauma experience preferred.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Level I trauma, ICU patient care, titration of drips including pressors, sedatives, paralytics, and insulin.
- Duties: Providing patient care for postoperative, trauma, and multisystem patients; titrating critical drips; interpreting telemetry strips; responding to patient needs; collaborating with physicians and specialists; adhering to hospital policies and safety protocols; participating in unit orientation and continuous education.
- Schedule Details: Night shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am; includes weekend shifts (6 in a 6-week period) and holiday rotations (every other holiday).
- Float Requirements: Yes; float to lower levels of care with a full team, managing 3 patients on stepdown and 5-6 in general medical environment.
- Additional Information: Orientation includes 8 hours with learning electronic medical records, 8 hours with an educator, shadowing for 4 hours, and 12 hours with a preceptor. Telemedicine intensivist support available during the night shift. Nurse aides/patient care techs assigned with ratios of 1:10. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips and monitors, which include Vents, CPAP, and Bipap. No specific dress code required.
