It comprises a large hospital, numerous physician clinics, home care services, comprehensive cancer care, and a wide range of award-winning services. This position involves performing, assisting, and completing cardiac and vascular radiographic examinations. Active radiographic interventional procedures in the cardiovascular lab will be performed using various sophisticated equipment. The technologist will operate equipment to produce digital images of designated body portions as ordered by physicians. Responsibilities include positioning and instructing patients for examinations and performing specialized studies. Essential Functions: Operates diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast-enhanced radiographs of the heart and cardiovascular system during cardiac catheterization. This aids the physician in diagnostic evaluation and treatment. The technologist will assist physicians with specialized procedures, including special exams. Technical factors determined by protocol will be entered into the computer, including radiation beam quality and filming sequence. The examining table will be raised, lowered, and manipulated in response to instructions from the physician. The technologist will start automatic injection of contrast medium into patients' blood vessels. Activation of the fluoroscope and motion picture camera will produce images to assist the physician in guiding the catheter through the cardiovascular system. Clear explanations of procedures will be provided to patients in preparation for exams, along with discharge instructions. During the imaging of the cardiovascular system, the technologist will observe gauges, recorders, and video screens to monitor blood pressure, cardiac output, and respiration. They will alert the physician to any changes in patient responses. Environmental factors such as temperature and humidity will be monitored and controlled. Assistance to the physician in interventional procedures, such as instilling enzymes or inserting balloons in blood vessels, will be provided to remove plaque or blockages. The technologist will maintain accurate and updated documentation in adherence with program standards. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as required.
