Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring VA or compact RN license and 2+ years of critical care experience with cardiovascular specialization.

Details

  • Work in the Surgical ICU of a Level II Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes trauma, CV surgery (TAVR, CABG), neurosurgery, and complex surgical patients
  • Manages diagnoses such as acute ventilator need, COVID+ with high O2 demand, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleed, open heart recovery, and multi-system organ failure
  • Uses Epic for charting
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:00)
  • Patient ratios of 1:2-3, adjusted appropriately during required floating based on skill level and acuity
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating required within scope to non-ICU units at standard ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (CSC and TNCC preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of SICU experience required, with strong cardiovascular experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • Skills required include arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, ventilator management, CRRT/CVVHD, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
  • Additional preferred skills include ICP monitoring, Impella, IABP, Swan-Ganz monitoring, and Prismaflex/Prismamax use
  • Current Nursys report required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex surgical, trauma, and cardiovascular ICU patients
  • Responsible for interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, ventilator care, and multi-system organ failure management
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Up to 8 hours of pre-start orientation modules required within 1 week of signing
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • RTO requests subject to manager discretion
  • Previous employees must have a 1-year separation from the health system before returning
