    Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as prescribed by physician.
    • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and arterial puncture.
    • Perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent), as well as endotracheal tube insertion and removal via free hand technique and/or video laryngoscope.
    • Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform 12-lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
    • Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed.
    • Document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds and with attending and pulmonary physicians.
    Required Qualifications
    • Active Respiratory Therapist license valid in the state of Virginia.
    • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
    • Demonstrated competency in operating invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and related respiratory care devices.
    • Ability to perform arterial puncture and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and within the full scope of a professional respiratory therapy license.
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols.
    • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures or similar chest drainage devices.
    • Experience performing routine chest x-ray review to assess patient respiratory status.
