Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Progressive Care/Telemetry in Wausau, WI
Join a fast-paced cardiac progressive care and telemetry team as a Travel Registered Nurse in Wausau, Wisconsin. This 10-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for complex cardiac and step-down patients in a 44-bed intermediate cardiac unit while working alongside a collaborative inpatient team. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,220–$2,340
- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse contract
- Contract Length: 10 weeks
- Start Date: September 28, 2026
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Shift Duration: 12-hour days
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week, subject to orientation and holiday scheduling policies
- Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4
- Float Requirement: Float to inpatient units as needed
- Unit: 44-bed intermediate cardiac step-down and telemetry unit
Travel RN Job Requirements
- Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 2 years of recent IMC, PCU, step-down, or telemetry nursing experience
- At least 1 year of strong cardiac nursing experience in a cardiac step-down, intermediate cardiac, or cardiac ICU setting
- Recent experience managing Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin infusions
- Current BLS and ACLS certification through the AHA or American Red Cross
- Ability to successfully complete an EKG competency test during the first week
- At least 1 year of recent Epic electronic health record charting experience
- At least one completed travel nursing assignment
- Associate degree or nursing certificate required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated resilience, independence, flexibility, and ability to manage change in a high-turnover environment
Cardiac Progressive Care RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to cardiac progressive care, PCU, and telemetry patients
- Monitor and manage patients recovering from CABG, valve procedures, thoracotomy, vascular surgery, cardiac catheterization, pacemaker placement, defibrillator procedures, and ablations
- Care for patients experiencing arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, acute chest pain, myocardial infarction, and other complex cardiac conditions
- Administer and monitor cardiac infusions, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin, according to clinical protocols
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly escalate concerns to the appropriate clinical team
- Provide care for medical-surgical overflow patients, including those with detoxification needs, diabetic ketoacidosis, COPD exacerbation, and respiratory failure
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in Epic
- Float to other inpatient units as needed while maintaining safe, organized, and timely patient care
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to support positive patient outcomes
