PCU Travel Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in North Carolina
• At least 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit, PCU, progressive care, or stepdown nursing experience
• Recent telemetry nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Ability to care for patients recovering from cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
• Adaptability, flexibility, and a team-oriented approach
• Prior experience with cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgery patients is preferred

Progressive Care RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients recovering from procedures such as CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, thoracic surgery, AAA repair, femoral-popliteal bypass, and carotid endarterectomy
• Monitor and manage patients with heart failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, and other complex medical conditions
• Perform focused nursing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate timely interventions
• Provide continuous telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Manage chest tubes, epidurals, tube feedings, and glucose-management protocols
• Safely administer and monitor cardiac infusions and other high-alert medications according to unit protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, nursing assistants, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery, medications, and discharge needs
• Maintain accurate nursing documentation in the Cerner electronic medical record
• Support the team by floating to designated stepdown, medical-surgical, or inpatient emergency holding units when needed
• Work scheduled weekends and remain flexible to support holiday coverage
