Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring telemetry strip interpretation, drip titration experience, and night shift availability.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown/PCU unit within a Level 3 Trauma hospital
  • 22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and 1:10 nurse aide-to-patient ratio
  • Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, Afib, respiratory distress, and stroke
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitro
  • RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
  • CPAP management is part of the scope of practice on this unit
  • Charge nurse is present each shift and carries a full patient assignment
  • PCAs/patient care techs are available on the unit
  • Epic EMR is used for charting
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Day shifts also available (0630–1900) with cyclic scheduling
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • One major and one minor holiday coverage required
  • Floating to the ICU may be required for nurses with appropriate experience
  • 13-week assignment

Requirements

  • Active IA RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Drip titration experience required
  • Cardiac telemetry strip interpretation skills required
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)

Additional Information

  • Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year are not eligible — candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Orientation consists of one 12-hour department-specific shift
  • A pass/fail open-book exam on unit skills is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure results in contract termination
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront — additional RTO will not be approved after the initial submission
  • This is a fast-paced unit with high admit and discharge volume; successful nurses demonstrate a positive attitude, strong teamwork, and a patient-centered approach
