Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 1 year of PCU experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 29-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
  • Mixed acuity MS/PCU non-specialty unit
  • Patient types include respiratory failure, sepsis, GIB, bariatric post-op, diabetic, CHF, COPD, PNA, acute SNF patients, and TIA/stroke rule-out
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU and 1:5 on MS/MT
  • CNA to patient ratio of 1:10 supporting with vitals, toileting, bathing, and feeding
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730)
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No self-scheduling; schedule coordinated with manager on a 6-week period
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to ED Holding, overflow areas, and no specific MS units, with travelers floated first
  • Uses Epic (preferred), Alaris, and Pyxis

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Telemetry experience required along with cardiac rhythm interpretation skills
  • Experience with CIWA protocols, BiPAP, central line maintenance/management, tube/drain management, and IV skills
  • Experience with common medications including Cardizem, Dopamine, heparin, nitro, Lasix, and Dilaudid
  • Preferred experience with chest tube management, trach care, and home vent
  • Must complete and pass Traveler Telemetry Competency exam prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on a mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit
  • Unit supported by a free-floating charge nurse, hospital educator, SWAT nurse for PICCs and procedures, 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage, and day-shift OT/PT/ST
  • Bedside handoff required with whiteboard completion expected each shift
  • Hospital orientation includes NEO classes, Epic training, safe patient handling, and glucose training, followed by a 12-hour unit orientation with a preceptor
  • RTO permitted up to 7 days, with additional requests emailed to the nurse manager
  • Holiday coverage expected for a minimum of 1 summer and 1 winter holiday
  • Scrubs of any professional color are permitted
  • Free designated parking provided
  • Unit culture described as welcoming and traveler-friendly, with many travelers extending their assignments
  • First-time travelers considered if they have strong experience
