Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

The position involves providing nursing care across various units, including but not limited to:

• MSICU: 40 beds
• CVICU: 10 beds
• PCU: 40 beds
• 2R PCU Obs: 18 beds (with potential overflow)
• CCU: 30 beds
• Medical: 89 beds
• Surgical: 55 beds
• Flex Unit: 9 beds
• Inpatient Rehab: 47 beds on two floors
• ED Holding Unit

Experience Requirements

Minimum experience required per unit:

• ICU: 2 years of ICU experience
• PCU/PCU ER holds: 2 years of PCU experience
• Med-Surg: 2 years in an acute care setting

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses

The registered nurse will encounter various patient types, including:

• ICU: Respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeds, DKA, sepsis, complicated post-operative cases, strokes, and post-arrest scenarios.
• PCU: Respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and general medical/surgical cases.
• Med-Surg: General medical surgical cases including oncology, post-operative patients, and those experiencing various acute conditions.

Patient Ratios

• ICU: 1:2 based on acuity
• PCU and CCU: 1:4 depending on acuity or discharges
• Medical and Surgical: 1:5
• Rehab: 1:8 with a team model (RN, LPN, Tech)

Required Licenses and Certifications

All candidates must possess the following:

• ICU: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• PCU: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Med-Surg: BLS, NIHSS

Required Skills

Candidates should demonstrate the following skills:

• ICU: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, invasive line management, and tracheostomy care.
• PCU: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, and required IV medication titration.
• Med-Surg: IV administration, PCA management, and general patient care responsibilities.

Support Within the Department

The department is supported by:

• Technicians: Various ratios depending on unit
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Hospitalists and Intensivists available 24/7

Technology and Equipment

Familiarity with the following technologies is expected:

• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Epic
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation and Training

Orientation consists of:

• 2 days of hospital orientation focusing on systems and procedures.
• 1 day of unit-specific orientation.
• Telemetry competency assessment is required.

Scheduling

Scheduling involves the following:

• Communication with staffing for daily assignments.
• Expectations for timely arrival to designated units.
• Scheduling provided three weeks in advance, with time off requests managed through the Nurse Manager.
