Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in a high-acuity setting. The role involves caring for patients in a busy surgical oncology unit with both Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical Surgical patient populations. This position requires flexibility, as staff may be assigned to rotating shifts, including nights and potential floating within their scope of practice.

Unit Details

The successful candidate will work in a mixed acuity unit that handles various surgical oncology cases, with a focus on patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adults and geriatric patients with diverse surgical oncology cases.
• Administer chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and manage oncologic emergencies.
• Monitor critical conditions, including cytokine release syndrome, insulin drips, and heparin drips.
• Implement infection prevention protocols and fall prevention strategies.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Staffing Details

Staffing ratios aim for 1:4, with the potential for up to 1:5 during busy periods. Weekend staffing may vary according to unit needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes cannot be guaranteed.

Patient Demographics

The unit primarily serves adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses that include:

• Surgical Oncology: Breast, thyroid, and melanoma.
• Hepatobiliary cancers: Liver, pancreas, spleen, and biliary tract.
• Colorectal cancers: Colon and rectal.
• Plastics: Reconstructive breast cancer and sarcoma.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

• A minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• ONS Chemo certification is preferred.

Computerized Charting

Experience with EPIC electronic health record systems is preferred.

Parking Information

Agency staff can choose from several parking permit options:

• WMC Agency Permit: 24/7 access to the medical center garage.
• WB Permit: Access to specific garages on weekends and holidays, with shuttle service to the medical center.
• CXS Permit: Similar access as WB, with additional parking locations available.
