Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring telemetry skills and a NE or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital
  • 55-bed stepdown unit located on the 4th Floor East Wing
  • Primarily adult patient population, with rare pediatric patients aged 15 and older
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4 for both day and night shifts
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1830-0630
  • Every other weekend shift requirement
  • Floating required, ideally to Medical-Surgical areas based on highest need
  • Uses EPIC EMR system
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps
  • Mechanical lifts available in every other room
  • Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness
  • Common medications include PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin
  • Support staff includes charge nurse, CNAs, educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, PT, and OT

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Telemetry competency required
  • BSN not required
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Manage daily patient care responsibilities including hourly rounding and responsiveness to patient needs
  • Join a tight-knit unit team known for strong collaboration and mutual support
  • 12 hours of orientation provided
  • Nurses must complete a pass/fail open-book skills exam on Friday during orientation, requiring a 90% score to pass
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove nails will result in contract termination
  • Scrub color required: Navy Blue (CNAs wear Ceil Blue)
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
  • Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
