Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU Oncology/Med Surg unit position requiring a NE or Compact RN license and prior PCU or oncology experience.

Details

  • - Acute care Level 1 trauma hospital setting on the PCU Oncology unit (5 North)
  • Primary patient population includes adult oncology PCU and trauma PCU patients
  • 18-bed unit
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-1:5 for both day and night shifts
  • 12-hour night shifts scheduled 6:30p-7:00a
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling available but balanced to unit needs
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Common drips/medications include chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix
  • RNs occasionally titrate Insulin and Cardizem drips
  • High-flow respiratory equipment commonly used
  • Alaris IV pumps used on the unit
  • Lyko lifts available in even-numbered rooms with additional lift equipment accessible
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg and PCU units at the same level of care
  • Two days of unit orientation provided

Requirements

  • Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) for the submitting state, no pending licenses accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required (AHA)
  • ONS/ONCC certification preferred but not required
  • Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
  • Strong PCU experience required; oncology experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Charge nurse experience not required
  • Must not have artificial fingernails due to infection control policy in patient care areas
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence location
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to oncology and trauma PCU patients from diagnosis through remission or end-of-life care
  • Support hourly rounding and bedside shift report as key components of the patient experience
  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team including Nursing Assistants, Charge Nurse, PT/OT, RN Case Manager, Social Worker, Educator, and Dietitian
  • Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and respectful care for a diverse patient population
  • Must pass a pass/fail open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
  • Holiday coverage expectations apply per unit scheduling needs
