PCU Travel Nursing Job Details

- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 25, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
- Shift Hours: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- Weekend Coverage: Required approximately every other to every third weekend, based on unit needs
- Call: Not required
- Floating: May be required to medical-surgical units within the nurse’s scope of practice
- Patient Population: Adults
- Unit Profile: 12-bed PCU with an average daily census of approximately 10 patients
Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent PCU or ICU nursing experience; approximately 2 years of PCU/ICU experience is preferred for first-time travelers
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado or a valid compact-state RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Strong experience caring for patients requiring progressive monitoring and interventions
- Experience with telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, oxygen therapy, and noninvasive airway management
- Ability to manage cardiac and vasoactive infusions according to unit protocols
- Competence with computerized clinical documentation; Epic experience preferred
- Willingness to work required weekends and float within scope when needed
PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult PCU patients with cardiac, respiratory, minor trauma, and mildly unstable hemodynamic diagnoses
- Monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythms, patient condition, and hemodynamic status
- Manage patients receiving BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, Airvo, nasal cannula, and other oxygen-delivery therapies
- Administer and monitor cardiac and vasoactive infusions, including titratable drips, in accordance with established protocols
- Provide central-line, peripheral IV, arterial-line, chest-tube, tracheostomy, feeding-tube, and wound-care management
- Administer blood products and manage heparin protocols safely and accurately
- Interpret arterial blood gases and respond promptly to changes in respiratory or clinical status
- Use rapid response and code team resources to support timely intervention during patient deterioration
- Apply isolation precautions and maintain a safe environment, including care for patients in negative-pressure-capable rooms
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, IV services, radiology, social services, and other members of the care team
- Complete accurate computerized documentation and provide clear handoffs at shift change
- Float to medical-surgical units as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality care within the RN’s scope of practice
