Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring strong ventilator experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • PCU setting with MS/Tele, Telemetry, and Cardiac Telemetry patient populations
  • Patient population includes pulmonary stepdown, intermediate care, ventilated/trach patients, COPD, and high acuity pulmonary patients
  • Standard patient ratio of 1:4, with occasional flex to 1:6
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
  • Required to work 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule period (combination of Fri/Sat/Sun)
  • Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active MO RN license or compact license required; both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact) must be in hand due to floating requirements
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience, including a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Strong ventilator experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry
  • Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy including port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
  • Experience managing feeding tubes, hemodialysis, and renal failure patients
  • Experience with respiratory care including ventilators, chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience managing heparin protocols, cardiac drips (with and without titration), and PCA
  • Experience caring for CVA and traumatic brain injury patients
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Work in a 5-time Magnet-recognized, teaching, Level 1 Trauma tertiary care hospital with 456 staffed beds
  • Deliver comprehensive care to high-acuity pulmonary, cardiac, renal, and neurological patients
  • Utilize isolation precautions and PPE as needed
  • Navy scrub color required
  • No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time-off requests finalized at time of submission
  • No additional RTO or schedule changes permitted after submission or offer
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Employees with 18 months of tenure require a 3-month break in service before reapplying
