Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a 5-time Magnet, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring recent telemetry experience and a MO or compact RN license.

Details

• 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit handling intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow cases (TURPs, lap chol, lap appy, lap hernia, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, wound care)
• Fast-paced unit supporting patient throughput from the ED and OR
• Patient ratio of 1:5, with rare flexes to 1:6
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-7:15)
• Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within a 6-week schedule (combination of Fri/Sat/Sun)
• Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments as needed
• Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active RN license - Missouri and Kansas or compact license required in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• 1-2 years of recent telemetry experience required, with a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
• Previous charge RN experience preferred
• Travel experience required
• Skills required: cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care and management, IV starts, heparin protocols, PCA management, CVA care, oxygen administration (nasal cannula, face mask, portable tank), isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac management
• Preferred skills: insulin drip titration, renal failure care, ortho trauma and total joint replacement care, surgical drain management, and tracheostomy care
• Two professional references required, one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

• Provide advanced monitoring and clinical care to intermediate-level medical and post-surgical patients
• Utilize rapid response/code teams as needed for emergent patient needs

• Maximum RTO of 7 days, finalized at time of submission with no changes allowed afterward
• Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Previous BJC/Saint Luke's employees must have an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service, and permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
