Join a leading acute-care hospital as a PCU Registered Nurse in Columbus, OH, specializing in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Step Down. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced nurses looking to make a difference in patient care.

Unit Information: You will work in a Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds and pediatric patients. The unit has a high acuity of PCU cases, with a small number of med-surg patients. If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department's needs. Patient diagnoses include Solid Tumor, Orthopedic Oncology, and Thoracic Oncology.

Special Procedures/Unit Details: The PCU is a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care. While pediatric patients are cared for on this unit, they are extremely rare and would likely be managed by permanent staff. Pediatric experience is NOT required for agency RNs.

Key Responsibilities:

• High acuity PCU patient care with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls.
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response teams.
• Management of feeding tubes, blood product administration, central line care, and IV starts.
• Administration of cardiac drips, PCA, and management of chest tubes.
• Interpretation of ABGs and tracheostomy management.

Requirements:

• Overall 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience.
• Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), ACLS & NIH.
• Patient ratios: 1:4-5 Med Surg Telemetry, 1:3 PCU.
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.
• Previous travel experience preferred.

Skills Required:

• Management of dysrhythmias and IV insulin protocols.
• Phlebotomy and chemotherapy administration.
• Wound care and non-invasive airway management.
