PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse environment.

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Stepdown
  • Bed Capacity: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
  • Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 on both days and nights
  • Common Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer diagnoses, vascular issues, sepsis, respiratory conditions, strokes, renal failure, and post-operative care (stent and pacemaker placement)

Shift Information

  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Shift Schedule: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirements: Minimum of 2 holidays during the contract period

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment
  • Monitor and assess patients’ health conditions
  • Titrate drips and manage medications, including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
  • Utilize RT equipment such as high flow oxygen systems and troubleshoot as necessary
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Work collaboratively with charge nurses and support staff, including nurse aids or patient care techs
  • Participate in patient safety initiatives, focusing on enhancing patient experience and communication regarding medications

Qualifications

  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years
  • Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Competency in arterial lines
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for travel purposes
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt to feedback

Additional Information

The successful nurse will be a team player, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills while serving diverse cultural populations, primarily Hispanic and Somalian. Preference will be given to candidates who can adhere to organizational policies, including limitations on artificial nails in patient care areas.

For this role, candidates must provide their requested time off (RTO) upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.

This position requires a willingness to float to MedSurg or ICU departments to accommodate PCU acuity needs as necessary.
