Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position on a cancer hospital's oncology telemetry unit, requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU.

Details

• Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit with 36 beds, over 24 dedicated to PCU-level care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric oncology patients cared for primarily by permanent staff; pediatric experience not required
• 12-hour shift rotation between day and night (D/N) based on department needs, reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Staffing ratios approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, PCA pumps, and continuous bladder irrigation equipment
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Weekend shifts are variable

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, including at least 1 year of PCU experience
• High acuity PCU patient care experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team use, feeding tube management, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, non-titrated cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include cardiac drip titration, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice welcomed; prior travel experience preferred but not required
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment consideration after 6 months away from the facility
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel assignments at this facility
• Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
