Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU.

Details

  • Work on a mixed acuity Surgical Oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
  • 16-week assignment
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4, with potential to reach 1:5
  • Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling offered
  • Floating within scope of practice may be required
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients with surgical oncology diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cases
  • Perform specialized procedures including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, and heparin drips
  • Manage oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Utilizes Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio state or compact) in hand at time of submission
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current, consistent acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills in respiratory care, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), and tracheostomy care preferred
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management required
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to surgical oncology patients including cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management
  • All permanent staff on the unit are PCU trained
  • Shift assignments for D/N rotating contracts are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, though changes are not guaranteed
  • Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Ohio fingerprinting is required promptly after signing the contract, with urgency required to avoid delays
  • Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location; those at extreme distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
