Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology, requiring PCU experience and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • PCU unit focused on acute leukemia and hematology patients
  • Adult and geriatric patient population, primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia cases
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • 12-hour rotating shifts covering days (7:00-19:30) and nights (19:00-7:30)
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Special focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patients
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, cardiac monitoring, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Accessing/managing ports and use of Rapid Response Teams preferred skills
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager, director, or supervisor; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to newly diagnosed acute leukemia and hematology patients
  • Utilize telemetry monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias as part of daily responsibilities
  • Manage feeding tubes and provide related patient care
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
  • Current employees are ineligible for travel assignments at this health system
  • RTO must be submitted with initial application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
