Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down experience.
Details
- 40-bed Progressive Care/Step-Down unit functioning as a Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit focused on ED decompression and throughput
- Patient ratios of 1:5 Step-Down or 1:6 MedSurg (1:5 if combined) on both day and night shifts
- Care for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded clinical background
- Minimal bedside procedures performed on this unit
- Uses Baxter IV pumps and Cerner documentation system
- 13-week assignment with a 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM shift schedule
- Every other weekend rotation required with no on-call responsibilities
- Assists with holiday coverage as needed
- Floating expected to other units within skill set, including opportunities in the CMU Telemetry Unit and as an ED Transport Nurse
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) level care
- Charge Nurse experience or willingness to take on the role is appreciated
- No gaps in work history equaling 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Receive admitted patients from the ED, complete Admission Assessments, Medication Reconciliation, and initiate acute care orders to reduce overall length of stay
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork focus needed for this fast-paced, quick-turnover unit
- Required uniform of Navy Blue/White or a combination of the two colors with no t-shirts; appropriate navy or white jacket/sweater permitted if needed
- Many travel nurses on this unit have requested extensions, with some staying for several years
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted
