Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Clinical Decision Unit/PCU night shift position requiring at least 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down experience.
Details
- 40-bed Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit within a hospital setting
- Focus on ED decompression and throughput by receiving admitted patients, completing admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders
- Patient ratios of 1:5 Step-Down/1:6 MedSurg (1:5 if combined), both day and night
- Typical staffing includes a free charge nurse and 1-2 CNAs based on volume
- Uses Baxter IV pumps and Cerner documentation system
- Minimal bedside procedures performed on this unit due to the fast-paced admission-focused environment
- Night shift schedule from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required, no on-call, and assistance with holidays expected
- Floating required to other units within skill set, including opportunities in CMU Telemetry or as an ED Transporter
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) level care preferred
- Well-rounded clinical background needed due to wide variety of patient diagnoses
- Charge nurse experience or willingness to take on the role appreciated
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include admitting patients from the ED, completing assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders to reduce length of stay
- Must maintain a positive attitude and strong teamwork focus in a fast-paced, quick-turnover environment
- This is not an overflow or holding unit but a dedicated Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit
- Additional opportunities may be available in the CMU Telemetry Unit or as an ED Transport Nurse
- Many travel nurses on this unit have requested extensions, with some staying for several years
- Dress code requires navy blue/white scrubs or a combination of the two colors, no t-shirts
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, with no exceptions for local candidates
