Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of PCU/Telemetry experience and LTAC experience with a MO or compact RN license.

Details

  • PCU/Telemetry unit with a mixed acuity patient population including stroke, heart failure, respiratory failure, GIB, renal failure, and post-surgical patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Day shift, 3x12 hours, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within a 6-week schedule, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
  • Holiday shift coverage required as needed
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Daily census of 30 with 30 rooms on the unit

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Missouri or compact) required, with Kansas license also required due to floating needs
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/Telemetry experience required, with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
  • LTAC experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, telemetry, and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Experience with IV therapy including central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care, and starting IVs
  • Experience managing feeding tubes, pre/post hemodialysis, and renal failure patients
  • Experience with heparin protocols and managing cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Experience with CVA and pre/post neurosurgery patients
  • Experience with high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
  • Social Security number and finalized RTO/scheduling requests required at time of consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide intermediate level nursing care to a wide variety of patients including those with stroke, heart failure, SI, ETOH withdrawal, respiratory failure, pneumonia, GIB, syncope, TIA, falls, and post-surgical needs
  • Preferred experience includes ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, TBI, chest tube management, and CPAP/BiPAP
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days permitted
  • Returning staff must observe an 18-month tenure policy with a 3-month break in service
  • Permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this role
  • No block scheduling accommodations available
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
