You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team while caring for patients who require close monitoring between the acute-care and intensive-care settings.

PCU Travel RN Job Details

- Contract Length: 13 weeks, with potential for a longer assignment
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts, approximately 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3–4
- Unit Profile: 20-bed PCU with an average daily census of 18
- Floating: May be required to a nearby sister intermediate cardiac care unit
- Charting System: Epic
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent progressive care, stepdown, intermediate care, or comparable acute-care RN experience
- Active North Carolina or compact Registered Nurse license, or eligibility to obtain one before the assignment begins
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Demonstrated proficiency with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and EKG testing
- Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips, including familiarity with medications such as Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
- Strong experience with arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, tracheostomies, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
- Competency with IV starts, IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols, blood product administration, isolation precautions, and conscious sedation
- Ability to recognize and respond to clinical deterioration, rapid response events, and unstable hemodynamics
- Must be willing to float as needed and complete required orientation, testing, and pre-start education
PCU Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients recovering from rapid response events, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, gastrointestinal bleeding, and complex postoperative procedures
- Monitor and manage patients with cardiac and vasoactive infusions while promptly recognizing changes in condition
- Interpret telemetry and EKG findings, identify dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate interventions
- Manage arterial lines, central and peripheral access, PICC lines, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and non-invasive respiratory support
- Administer blood products and medications in accordance with established protocols, including insulin and heparin protocols
- Care for patients undergoing postoperative recovery following gynecologic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, thoracic, neurological, and orthopedic procedures
- Support patients with obstetric complications, including pre- and post-delivery care requiring close monitoring
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, IV services, rehabilitation, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Document accurately in Epic and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team
- Float to the designated sister unit when needed while maintaining safe, evidence-based patient care
