Unit Information

Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC)

Location: Asheville, NC

Floor: E4 - CVPC

Building: E Heart Tower

General Information

• Primary Patient Population: CV surgery and vascular surgery including open heart surgery, thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) procedures, and various bypass surgeries.
• Number of Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
• Staff Composition:
  • Day Shift: 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), 1.33 Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs)
  • Night Shift: 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 0.33 HUC
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 for RNs, 1:13 for PCTs
• Typical Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various patient lifts
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Stepdown experience
• Telemetry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery patients within the last year
• CVICU experience

Typical Procedures Performed

• Epidural management
• Chest tube management
• Tube feedings
• IV gluccomander
• Cardiac medication management (including phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Floating Areas

Possible to float to any Stepdown (1:5 ratios) or Medical-Surgical (1:6-7 ratios) unit, as well as the inpatient holding area in the Emergency Room (1:6 ratios).

Dress Code

• Scrub Colors: All navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white.

Weekend and Holiday Requirements

• No on-call duty.
• Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Day/Night) over a 6-week scheduling period.
• Flexibility to work on holidays is required.
