Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

Join our team in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in Oncology, where we provide quality care to adult patients dealing with cancer and trauma. This unit features:

  • Type: PCU Oncology
  • Patient Population: Adult Oncology and Trauma patients
  • Number of Beds: 18

Experience Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Preferred experience includes either strong PCU experience or Oncology experience
  • Charge nurse experience is required

Certifications

The following certifications are required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • ONS/ONCC certification is preferred, but not mandatory

Working Conditions

Shifts will be structured as follows:

  • 12-hour shifts from 0630 to 1900 and from 1830 to 0700
  • Every other weekend commitment
  • Self-scheduling available, balanced to meet the needs of the unit

Patient Ratios

Staffing ratios are:

  • Days: 1 nurse for every 4-5 patients
  • Nights: 1 nurse for every 4-5 patients

Floating Policy

Travelers may be required to float to other Med/Surg and PCU units, with assignments maintaining the same level of care.

Orientation

New hires will undergo a two-day unit orientation.

Drips & Skills

RNs will occasionally titrate Insulin and Cardizem drips. Other common medications and drips managed include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Heparin
  • Cardizem
  • Protonix

Respiratory Equipment

Travelers can expect to encounter respiratory equipment such as:

  • High-flow systems
  • BiPAP machines

Support Staff

Support is provided by a multidisciplinary team which includes:

  • Nursing Assistants
  • Charge Nurse
  • Physical and Occupational Therapists
  • RN Case Managers
  • Social Workers
  • Educators
  • Dietitians

Patient Experience

We prioritize patient experience through hourly rounding and bedside shift reports to foster communication and care transparency.

Cancellation Policy

The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts for assignments lasting 13 weeks, and up to 3 shifts for shorter assignments.

Charting System

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used is Epic.

Licensing

A valid nursing license is required for submission.

Trauma Level

This position operates in a trauma level 1 care setting.

Division

The role is positioned within an acute division of care.
