Thrive Staffing is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Omaha, Nebraska.

Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

The position is within a Patient Care Unit (PCU) focusing on Adult Oncology and Trauma patients. The unit consists of 18 beds.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Charge nurse experience is required.
  • Oncology experience is preferred, but strong PCU experience may be accepted.

Certifications

  • BLS Required
  • ACLS Required
  • ONS/ONCC Certification Preferred (current certification preferred, but not required)

Patient Ratios

  • Days: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Nights: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients

Shifts

Shifts are 12 hours in duration, typically from 0630 to 1900 or 1830 to 0700. Every other weekend is required. Self-scheduling is available but must balance the needs of the unit.

Floating

Travelers may float to other Med/Surg and PCU units, with assignments remaining within the same level of care.

Orientation

There is a two-day unit orientation for all new staff.

Drips & Skills

Registered Nurses will occasionally titrate Insulin and Cardizem drips. Common medications and drips include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Heparin
  • Cardizem
  • Protonix

Travelers should be comfortable managing other titratable drips as necessary.

Respiratory Equipment

Travelers may commonly encounter the following respiratory equipment:

  • High-flow oxygen
  • BiPAP
  • Ventilators

Support Staff

The team includes Nursing Assistants, a Charge Nurse, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Case Managers, Social Workers, Educators, and Dietitians.

Patient Experience Focus

Hourly rounding and bedside shift reports are key components of the patient experience strategy, emphasizing quality care and patient-centered practices.

Cancellation Policy

The facility may cancel up to 4 shifts for assignments of 13 weeks or longer, and up to 3 shifts for shorter assignments.

Charting System

The electronic medical record (EMR) system used is Epic.

Qualifications

  • BSN is not required.
  • A current nursing license is required.

Trauma Level

This position is within a Level 1 trauma care setting, providing care for acute cases.
