  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8-hour day shifts, 40 hours per week
  • Call: Required approximately 6–8 days per month; self-scheduled
  • Weekend Coverage: Minimum of 1 weekend shift during the contract
  • Patient Population: Pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Unit Volume: Approximately 30 patients daily across a 21-bed unit

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license; pending licensure may be considered at submission but must be active before the start date
  • At least 2 years of PACU or comparable critical-care nursing experience
  • Strong pediatric nursing experience, including pediatric ENT, dental, and orthopedic procedures
  • Experience recovering patients following orthopedic, neurological, general, urological, dental, gynecological, and pediatric ENT procedures
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH certifications
  • Experience with Phase I PACU care and post-anesthesia monitoring
  • Level II trauma experience preferred
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Ability to participate in call coverage and work some holidays as needed
  • Willingness to orient to and provide coverage in Pre-Op Holding

PACU RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, comprehensive Phase I recovery care for pediatric and adult surgical patients
  • Monitor airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status during post-anesthesia recovery
  • Care for patients recovering from general, orthopedic, neuro, spine, urology, gynecology, ENT, dental, and other surgical procedures
  • Manage patients with nerve blocks, chest tubes, central lines, arterial lines, ventilators, and invasive monitoring equipment
  • Recognize and manage dysrhythmias, pain, nausea, airway complications, and other post-anesthesia concerns
  • Administer medications, blood products, IV vasopressors, reversal agents, anticoagulants, antiarrhythmics, and emergency medications according to orders and protocols
  • Perform airway assessments, support intubated patients, initiate emergency interventions, and participate in cardiac arrest response
  • Complete post-operative assessments, circulation checks, pain evaluations, and discharge readiness evaluations
  • Provide care for patients receiving procedural sedation, spinal anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care, local anesthesia, and general anesthesia
  • Assist with Pre-Op Holding coverage, including reviewing histories and physicals, administering pre-operative medications, starting IVs, and completing pre- and post-operative procedures
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, and other members of the care team
