PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Midland, Texas
Join a high-acuity PACU travel nursing team in Midland, Texas, providing Phase I post-anesthesia care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This 13-week travel assignment offers a Monday-to-Friday schedule in a collaborative Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Pre-Op environment, with exposure to orthopedic, neurological, general, urologic, gynecologic, ENT, dental, and pediatric procedures. PACU Travel Nurse Job Details

- Schedule: Day shift, 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday
- Shifts per Week: 5
- Hours per Week: 40
- Call: Required approximately 6–8 days per month; self-scheduling available
- Weekend Coverage: Minimum of 1 weekend shift during the assignment
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:2
- Patient Population: Pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Patient Volume: Approximately 30 patients per day; 21-bed unit
- Documentation: Cerner experience preferred
PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas; license must be active by the start date
- At least 1 year of recent PACU or Phase I recovery experience required; 2 years preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Strong pediatric recovery experience required, including pediatric ENT, dental, and orthopedic cases
- Experience caring for patients recovering from orthopedic, neurological, general, urologic, gynecologic, ENT, dental, and pediatric procedures
- Experience with all surgical specialties except cardiac procedures
- Level II trauma experience preferred
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH certification
- Ability to support coverage in Pre-Op Holding as needed
- Strong patient assessment, airway management, critical-care, and post-anesthesia recovery skills
- Availability to work occasional holidays and participate in required call coverage
PACU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive Phase I post-anesthesia care for patients of all ages following surgery and procedural sedation
- Assess and manage airways, respiratory status, pain, nausea, hemodynamic stability, and level of consciousness
- Monitor patients with nerve blocks, chest tubes, central lines, arterial lines, ventilators, and other advanced devices
- Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest, airway emergencies, malignant hyperthermia, and other post-operative complications
- Administer and monitor IV medications, vasopressors, narcotics, reversal agents, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, and emergency medications
- Care for patients recovering from orthopedic, neuro/spine, general, vascular, urologic, gynecologic, ENT, dental, pediatric, and robotic procedures
- Perform circulation checks, pain assessments, procedural sedation monitoring, blood product administration, and post-epidural management
- Complete pre- and post-operative procedures, review histories and physicals, interpret and communicate laboratory results, and obtain or verify procedural consent
- Provide age-appropriate care for pediatric and adult patients, including tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, dental, orthopedic, and other complex procedures
- Float between PACU and connected Pre-Op Holding areas to maintain safe patient coverage
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, reassessments, and patient disposition in the electronic medical record
