Description

American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN for a Level I Trauma Center requiring 2 years of PACU and critical care/ICU experience, with no weekends, holidays, or call.

Details

  • Work in a 38-bay Phase I PACU unit within a Level I Trauma Center, open 24/7
  • Average daily census of 70-90 patients
  • Day shift schedule (4x10 hours, 12:00-22:30)
  • Recover adult, occasional adolescent, and geriatric surgical patients
  • Surgical cases include neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant
  • Does not recover open heart surgeries or liver transplants
  • Unit has dedicated PCT/transport team support
  • No holidays, no call, and no weekends required
  • Floating limited to PACU or PreOp units within service line
  • EPIC charting system used

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence for compact)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • CCRN and TNCC certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU experience in a Level I Trauma Center required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care experience required
  • Level I and Level II trauma center experience required
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Critical care skills required including dysrhythmia recognition/management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, IV starts, IV vasopressors, ICP monitoring, and care of ventilated patients
  • Additional skills required: ICP monitoring, cardiac monitoring, 12-lead EKG/ECG, pre/post-op assessment and education
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted if they meet the 2-year Level I critical care/ICU and PACU experience requirement

Additional Information

  • Recover a wide array of acute post-op patients requiring artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive medications
  • Located in a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital
  • Night shift staff will be expected to learn preoperative patient workup
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for consideration
  • No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
  • Facial hair must allow for proper fit testing or must be shaved
