Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Orthopedics Med/Surg position requiring 2+ years of inpatient acute care experience, including 1+ year in ortho, and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Orthopedic Med/Surg unit caring for ortho, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
- Average daily census of 37 with 39 beds
- Typical patient ratio of 5-6:1, with flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Day shift schedule, 12-hour shifts (6:45a-7:15p), 3x12 hours per week
- Fast-paced unit requiring strong pain management skills for ortho and spine patients
- Float required to other med-surg units based on census needs
- Every other weekend required, with make-up time required for weekend call-offs
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute care experience required, including at least 1 year of orthopedic experience
- Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers
- Skills required: IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and pain management
- Experience with hip and trauma hip patients preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to orthopedic, neuro spine, and post-surgical patients in a fast-paced environment
- Manage pain for complex ortho and spine surgical patients
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Additional RTO requests after signing cannot be accommodated
- First-time travelers considered if they have Epic experience
- Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
- Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying as travelers
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
