Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Operating Room RN with acute care and trauma experience for a fast-paced Level I Trauma Center surgical unit offering a first-time traveler-friendly opportunity.

Details

• Work in a busy Surgery Room unit with 28 beds, including 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular cases
• Unit sees approximately 60-75 cases per day
• Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases such as GSW, stabbings, transplants (kidney, heart), general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open heart/CABG cases
• Hybrid room handles 5-10 adult cases per day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions
• Approximately 20% pediatric cases (open hearts, appendectomy, cholecystectomy)
• No liver or lung transplant cases performed
• Participates in Gifts of Hope cases
• EMR: EPIC
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing
• No floating required
• OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year with skeleton crew coverage overnight and after 1700 on weekends for trauma/urgent cases
• Variety of shift options including 8-hour, 10-hour, and 12-hour shifts
• Schedule is rotation-based with no self-scheduling; assignments made 2-4 weeks ahead on a 6-week cycle
• Weekend rotation required every 4th weekend (Friday/Saturday)
• Holiday coverage required, including 1 winter and 1 summer holiday
• On-call required, dependent on shift/service line, with a 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call staff
• Approximately 3 call shifts within a 6-week period

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification required
• 2-3 years of acute care experience required
• Minimum 12 months of core experience in specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
• Critical care experience preferred
• Level 1-2 trauma experience required
• Ability to scrub and circulate required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Support team includes charge nurse, resource nurse, anesthesiologist, surgeons, ANM, educators, service line reps, and EPIC super-users
• Charge nurse does not carry a patient assignment Monday-Friday but assists on evenings and weekends
• Orientation includes meeting educators and ANM, system login access, online modules, and EPIC training on day one, followed by unit orientation on days two and three
• Scrubs provided by facility
• Free parking available
• All RTO requests must be submitted directly to the manager via email
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former Advocate Health employees or subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
