Operating Room RN Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Texas
  • At least 1 year of professional RN experience; 2–3 years of operating room or perioperative nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Operating room experience in most of the following areas: robotic surgery, orthopedic and spine/neuro procedures, general and gynecologic surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, pain management, urology, vascular, and Trauma Level II cases
  • Experience with the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system preferred
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Community hospital and LTAC experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Cerner; prior Cerner experience preferred
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Flu vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions and declinations may be permitted according to policy
  • Ability to provide a resume and submit any requested time-off dates with application materials

Operating Room Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate perioperative nursing care for neonates, pediatric patients, adults, and geriatric patients
  • Prepare operating rooms, patients, equipment, and supplies for scheduled and urgent surgical procedures
  • Support robotic, orthopedic, spine, neuro, general, gynecologic, ENT, ophthalmic, pain management, urologic, vascular, and trauma procedures
  • Assist with laparoscopic and robotic surgery, spinal fusion, total joint replacement, vascular repair, thoracic procedures, hysterectomy, laminectomy, and other complex surgical cases
  • Maintain strict sterile technique, infection-control standards, surgical safety protocols, and universal time-out procedures
  • Safely handle, label, and transport specimens while accurately documenting perioperative care in Cerner
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary support staff to promote efficient operating room case flow
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly to emergencies, trauma cases, and code situations
