Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Operating Room RN with cardiovascular and general surgery expertise for a 13-week assignment at a Level IV trauma teaching hospital.

Details

  • Operating Room unit within a short-term acute care, Level IV Trauma Center, and major teaching hospital
  • Average daily census of 22 cases
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • On-call requirement of 1 day per week plus 1-2 weekends per 4-5 week schedule
  • 30-minute response time required when on call
  • Charting completed in Cerner and Accudose
  • Circulating and scrub duties required

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for consideration)
  • BLS certification required (AHA preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of in-specialty (OR) experience required
  • Proficient in circulating and scrub roles for cardiac, general, vascular, thoracic, and robotic surgeries
  • Proficient at vein harvesting and radial artery harvesting
  • Skilled in vascular procedures including AV fistulas/grafts, aortic surgeries/bypasses, femoral to popliteal or distal bypasses, carotids, and embolectomies
  • Skilled in orthopedic procedures including arthroscopies and total joint replacements
  • Skilled in general surgery procedures including colorectal/colon resections, laparoscopic assisted surgeries, Whipple procedures, liver resections, thyroidectomies, and mastectomies
  • Skilled in ENT procedures including tracheostomies, laryngectomies, and radical neck dissections
  • Skilled in urology procedures including cystectomies, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, and various implants
  • Skilled in robotic surgeries including gynecologic, colorectal, hernia, and Nissen fundoplication procedures
  • Skilled in gynecologic procedures including abdominal/vaginal hysterectomies and posterior/anterior repairs
  • Minimum 2 Manager or Charge Nurse references from within the past 2 years required
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Prior Charge Nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Major teaching hospital and member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
  • Scrub color requirement: royal blue, white, or a combination of both
  • Holiday RTO requests limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
  • Holiday coverage required for major holidays via on-call shifts (emergencies only)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1-March 31) unless medical exemption documented by an allergist or physician
  • COVID vaccine not required
  • First-time travelers accepted if experience requirements are met
  • Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler
  • Current employees of the Vandalia Health System (including CAMC, Mon Health, Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital, Webster Memorial Hospital, Grafton City Hospital, Highland-Clarksburg Hospital, and Minnie Hamilton Health System) are not eligible for this travel contract
  • Candidates must have a permanent address more than 100 miles from the facility, with candidates between 75-100 miles considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Free parking provided for travelers
