Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Operating Room RN with cardiovascular and general surgery experience for a fast-paced surgical unit requiring on-call availability.

Details

  • Operating Room unit within a short-term acute care, Level IV Trauma Center teaching hospital
  • Average daily census of 22 cases
  • 3x12 Day shifts, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Every other weekend work required
  • On-call requirement of 1 day per week plus 1-2 weekends per 4-5 week schedule
  • Charting completed in Cerner
  • Circulating and scrub duties required across multiple surgical specialties

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for consideration)
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of in-specialty experience required
  • Cardiovascular and general surgery experience required
  • Proficiency in circulating and scrub roles required
  • Experience in vascular, thoracic, and robotics-assisted surgeries required
  • Proficient in vein harvesting and radial artery harvesting
  • Proficient in vascular procedures including AV fistulas/grafts, aortic surgeries/bypasses, and carotid procedures
  • Proficient in orthopedic arthroscopies and total joint replacements
  • Proficient in general surgery procedures including colorectal resections, laparoscopic surgeries, whipples, liver resections, thyroids, and mastectomies
  • Proficient in ENT procedures including trachs, laryngectomies, and radical neck dissections
  • Proficient in urology procedures including cystectomies, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, and implants
  • Proficient in robotic-assisted GYN, colorectal, and hernia surgeries
  • Proficient in GYN procedures including abdominal/vaginal hysterectomies and repairs
  • Minimum 2 Manager or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required
  • Cerner charting experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct surgical support across a wide range of specialties including cardiovascular, vascular, orthopedic, general, ENT, urology, robotics, and GYN surgeries
  • Facility is a major teaching hospital and member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
  • Orientation held every other week
  • Scrub colors required are Royal Blue, White, or a combination of both
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medical exemption documented
  • COVID vaccine not required
  • First-time travelers accepted if experience requirements are met
  • Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler
  • Current employees of the broader health system are not eligible for travel contracts within the system
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility, with case-by-case consideration for those between 75-99 miles
  • No restrictions on requested time off, though holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of 3 major holidays
