Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology Clinic RN with 2+ years of oncology experience and Epic charting skills for a day shift assignment with no weekends required.

Details

  • Outpatient oncology clinic setting within a cancer hospital with 17 rooms
  • Patient population includes infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Treats oncology diagnoses including head and neck, sarcoma, CNS, thoracic, pediatric, and GU cancers
  • Patients are currently receiving treatment and require symptom management
  • Patient ratio of 1:15
  • Day shift schedule consisting of either 5x8-hour shifts (0800-1630) or 4x10-hour shifts (0700-1730 or 0730-1800)
  • No weekend shifts required
  • Floating required
  • Epic charting system required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS, OCN, ONS/ONCC, and PALS certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, infusions, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience accessing and managing ports, including central line and PICC line care
  • Experience with central line blood draws
  • Proficient in psychosocial care, including advanced directives and patient/family education
  • Symptom management experience for conditions including altered mental status, nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, dysphagia, edema, and constipation/diarrhea
  • Experience administering antiemetic medications
  • Care experience with multiple cancer types including bladder/kidney, brain, breast, ENT, liver, lung, melanoma, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers
  • Experience with external radiation therapy, radiation safety precautions, and total body irradiation
  • Wound care experience
  • Foley catheter insertion and management skills
  • Ability to interpret dysrhythmias
  • Experience with isolation precautions, PPE, and neutropenic precautions
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Tracheostomy care and management experience
  • Pain management experience including IV push narcotics and transdermal patches
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in an outpatient oncology clinic, including symptom management for patients undergoing active cancer treatment
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for traveler positions
  • Ohio fingerprinting is required promptly after signing the contract, with candidates outside Ohio needing to travel to a fingerprinting location or complete a mailed fingerprinting packet urgently
