Job Summary
Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), a nationally acclaimed non-profit health system in Carbondale, Illinois, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment in their Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The PCU provides comprehensive care for a diverse patient population with fluctuating acuity, primarily focusing on cardiac and respiratory conditions. Nurses manage a patient ratio of 4:1, supported by a collaborative department culture and an accessible manager who maintains visibility with the night shift.
This is a 13-week contract position, ideal for an experienced RN looking to make a significant impact in a supportive environment while expanding their professional experience in a leading healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients comprehensively to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needs.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and their responsible persons regarding care and treatment.
- Utilize strong nursing clinical judgment to recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition.
- Contribute to a positive and healthy workplace environment by employing professional communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Ensure compliance with Core Measure responsibilities related to patient care.
- Actively participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records for all patients.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Minimum of one year of recent experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Telemetry setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Shift Details
- Shift Type: Nights
- Hours: 1900 - 0730 (12-hour shifts)
- Days per Week: 3
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- On-Call Requirements: None

- Scheduling: Block schedules cannot be guaranteed but preferred schedules will be accommodated when possible.
