Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Yes Description: Unit: MedSurg/Telemetry - The unit is divided into two sections. The first section consists of 14 beds. The main section has 44 beds. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1 to 4. Electronic Medical Record system used is Cerner. Charge Nurse position is not available. There is one Nurse Aide on the night shift and one on the mid shift. During the day shift, there are 3-4 Nurse Aides available. Every other weekend shift is required. Holiday shifts will be assigned in rotation with permanent staff. The scrub color is navy. Telemetry equipment includes Phillips monitors. There is a dedicated monitor technician. Nurses are responsible for reading strips. Common IV drips include amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed rate insulin, nitroglycerin, and dopamine for renal dosing. Patients are not typically on ventilators but may use BiPAP or CPAP. A hospitalist or intensivist is on-call after hours. There is no IV team available. Respiratory Therapists are available 24/7. Pharmacy services are available 24/7 but use alternative services after 10 PM. Shifts follow a 6 PM to 6 AM schedule. Floating between the two sections of the unit is required. Floor-specific orientation consists of 6 hours. The unit typically cares for surgical, orthopedic, and medical patients. The post-procedure population includes post-catheterization, post-pacemaker, post-PCI, and TAVR day 1 or greater. Also included are CABG day 1 or greater, sepsis, and respiratory distress cases. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
