The unit consists of 36 beds with a patient ratio of 4:1 with catheter recovery and a maximum ratio of 6:1. At times, the ratio may be stretched to 7:1. Unit staffing includes Patient Care Technicians on both day and night shifts, along with Unit Clerks during the day. Equipment used includes remote telemetry monitors and Alaris pumps. Documentation is performed using the Meditech system. Scheduling requires working every other weekend. Floating policy allows for agency floats first, with potential floating to orthopedic or medical-surgical units. Patient experience is prioritized, aiming for a 75% satisfaction rate. Knowledge in procedures performed on the unit includes chest tube insertions, bedside paracentesis, and thoracentesis is required. The dress code allows for any scrubs except camouflage. Unit-specific policies and guidelines are in place, including a Telemetry Monitoring Policy and Stroke Policy. The unit has received awards and recognitions such as the Daisy and Bee award certificates. A monthly STAR award winner is recognized, voted on by the staff members.
