Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU/Med Surg/Oncology Duration: 18 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ONS/ONCC preferred Must-Have: Chemotherapy certification preferred. Ability to pass a clinical interview and exam during orientation. No artificial nails in patient care areas. Driver's license required for geographical assessment. Description: The position involves working in a stepdown unit specializing in adult oncology and trauma patients. The unit has 18 beds dedicated to critical care patients. Nurses may occasionally titrate insulin and Cardizem drips. Common medications include chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix. High flow respiratory equipment is regularly utilized. The unit has support staff, including nursing assistants, case managers, and dietitians. Hourly rounding and bedside shift report are key focuses for patient experience. Teamwork and a positive attitude are essential for success in this role. Nurses are expected to treat all patients with respect and compassion. Shifts consist of 12 hours and require weekend availability. Traveling nurses may float to other similar units as needed. Charting is completed using an electronic medical record system. Nursing staff are not required to hold a BSN. The care setting is acute, and the trauma level is 1.
