Must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation.
Must receive a score of 90% or higher to pass the exam.
Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care.
Description:
The unit provides care for adult oncology and trauma patients.
There are 18 beds in the unit.
First-time travelers are accepted.
Oncology experience is preferred but strong PCU experience is acceptable.
Charge nurse experience is not required.
Ratios for days and nights are 1:4-1:5.
Shifts are 12 hours long with the option of self-scheduling.
Nursing staff may float to other Med/Surg and PCU units as needed.
Common drips and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix.
RNs occasionally titrate insulin and Cardizem drips.
Travelers should be comfortable managing high-flow respiratory equipment.
The electronic medical record system is Epic.
Intravenous pumps used are Alaris.
Additional lift equipment is available in even-numbered rooms.
Support staff includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, physical and occupational therapists, case managers, social workers, educators, and dietitians.
Hourly rounding and bedside shift reports aim to enhance patient experience.
