Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intermediate Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty. License: Required RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Telemetry oncology, cardiac, and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required - Vent and transplant experience required Description: Evening/Night shift, 12-hour shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required. The Registered Nurse will work in both Intermediate Care and Thoracic units. Nurses on this unit provide comprehensive and specialized nursing care to acutely ill adult patients. Patients may present with multiple comorbidities, various medical diagnoses, and hemodynamic instability. Specialty populations include patients with cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and post lung transplant. Nurses are expected to work in a fast-paced environment, providing care to acutely ill surgical and trauma patients. Critical thinking and teamwork are essential in this collaborative environment. The unit has a patient ratio of 1:4 for general care and 1:2 for IMC. Experience in an Academic Level I or II trauma center or a similar size hospital is mandatory. Travelers will be required to pass a telemetry test before starting. The following criteria must be met in two attempts: - For the adult exam, a 100% identification of lethal rhythms is required, including ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and asystole. - No incorrect answers on questions regarding third-degree heart blocks. - A passing score of 80% or higher is required. - For the pediatric exam, recognition of ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole, and sinus bradycardia is needed, also with a passing score of 80% or higher. Travelers will have two attempts to pass the exam. Failure to pass after two attempts will necessitate submission of a certificate from a cardiac interpretation review course before a third attempt. If the traveler does not pass after three attempts, the assignment will be canceled. This position involves collaboration with interdisciplinary support teams, including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and others. The nurse will participate in providing care to a diverse patient population with various conditions. Nurses must be proficient in accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, and several other critical care procedures. Wound care and management of ventilated patients are also essential functions of this role. Candidates should demonstrate strong skills in telemetry and the management of complex patient care situations.
