Job Opportunity – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Surgical Oncology Nurse – Ohio
Start Date: November 16, 2026
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Schedule: 12-hour shifts (Days/Nights or rotating schedule based on unit needs); variable weekend coverage; 16-week assignment
Highlights:
- Mixed acuity unit caring for both PCU and Medical-Surgical patients with a focus on surgical oncology
- Patient population includes surgical oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma), hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastic/reconstructive surgery cases
- Staffing ratios goal of 1:4, may extend to 1:5 based on unit needs
- 36-bed unit with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, pharmacy, respiratory services, and rapid response teams
- Epic electronic medical record system; 72 hours of orientation provided
- Floating may be required within scope of practice to other acute care oncology units
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience (must be current within the last 12 months)
- Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Experience with telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP management, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Nursing degree from ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required (at least one from manager/director or formal leadership)
Special Procedures & Skills:
- Chemotherapy administration and blood transfusions
- Management of oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
- IV antibiotics, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Cardiac telemetry and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
- Chest tube care and tracheostomy management
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
Patient Population:
- Adults and geriatric patients
- Surgical oncology diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal cancers, and reconstructive procedures
Important Information:
- Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed immediately upon contract signing
- Strict compliance deadline of Tuesday prior to start date – no exceptions
- Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to Ohio for fingerprinting
- One pre-approved time off period available (must be requested with submission)
- Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccination not required
- Former employees eligible after 6 months separation; current employees ineligible
