- Current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
Description:
This is a mixed acuity unit caring for both PCU and Med-Surg patients.
The unit is recognized for being a busy surgical floor.
All permanent staff members are PCU trained.
Staffing ratios goal is 1:4 but may go up to 1:5.
Weekends are variable based on unit needs.
There is no set or blocked scheduling offered for permanent staff.
All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice.
Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed.
Patient demographics include adults and geriatrics.
Common patient diagnoses include surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics.
The unit handles chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and oncologic emergencies.
There is a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls.
Required skills include BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
Special procedures in the unit include insulin and heparin drips.
This position requires teamwork with interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
Travelers need to be aware of compliance processes, including fingerprinting requirements.
References must be provided, including one from a manager or someone in a formal leadership position.
