Job Opportunity – Progressive Care Unit / ICU Stepdown Registered Nurse – North Carolina

Start Date: October 5, 2026

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week available. Every other weekend required. Nurse-patient ratio typically 1:3-4. Contract length of 13 weeks or longer available.

Highlights:

  • ICU stepdown unit operating with critical care acuity – strong vasoactive drip titration and arterial line experience required
  • Diverse case mix including post-rapid response patients, respiratory distress, hemodynamic instability, GI bleeds, and post-operative care across multiple specialties
  • Epic charting system with Pyxis medication management
  • 18-20 bed unit with average daily census of 18 patients serving adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
  • Floating to sister ICCU unit as needed; comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy
  • First-time travelers accepted; local candidates welcome

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of progressive care, stepdown, or telemetry nursing experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
  • North Carolina or Compact State RN license
  • Strong experience with arterial line management and titrating vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neosynephrine)
  • Proficiency in telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
  • Experience with blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
  • IV start, conscious sedation, heparin protocols, and IV insulin protocol experience required
  • Must pass pre-start EKG testing
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
  • Availability for full hospital orientation week with daily classes
