Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

- Experience Baseline: Minimum 1–2+ years of recent Pediatric RN experience in an acute inpatient setting.
- Mandatory Certifications:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active AHA PALS (Mandatory hardstop)
- Clinical Skills Mandate: Demonstrated proficiency in pediatric IV insertion and vascular access.
- Cross-Unit Floating Expectations: Must be willing to float to the NICU to care for feeder/grower neonates based on unit census and clinical competence.
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A Medical Center in Elmira, NY is seeking a compassionate, patient-friendly Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN Pediatrics) for a 13-week contract on 4C PEDIATRICS (Department 6170). Operating within a small, family-centered inpatient pediatric unit, the RN will direct comprehensive nursing care for infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute medical and surgical conditions.
- Inpatient Pediatric Patient Care: Deliver direct bedside nursing care, physical assessments, developmental monitoring, and medication administration tailored to pediatric age groups.
- Vascular Access & Intravenous Therapy: Initiate and manage pediatric peripheral IV lines, administer IV fluids and medications, and manage central line dressings.
- NICU Feeder/Grower Cross-Coverage: Support maternal-child operations by floating to the Special Care Nursery / NICU to manage low-acuity feeder and grower infants when pediatric census permits.
- Family-Centered Education & Support: Educate parents and caregivers on home care plans, discharge instructions, medication management, and disease prevention.
