Pediatric Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Typical Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3–5, with ratios varying by shift and unit needs
  • Weekend Requirement: Approximately 5 weekend shifts during the six-week scheduling period
  • Floating: May float between pediatric units and nearby sister facilities within scope of practice
  • Call: May be required based on unit census

Pediatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of pediatric registered nursing experience required
  • Active Registered Nurse license in Texas or a compact license in hand at the time of submission
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical records required
  • Strong pediatric clinical assessment and medication administration skills
  • Experience caring for infants, children, and adolescents in a pediatric medical-surgical environment
  • Ability to float within scope of practice and adapt to changing patient acuity and staffing needs
  • Availability to work required weekends and designated holidays as scheduled
  • Two professional references covering at least one year of clinical experience within the past three years

Pediatric RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate, age-appropriate nursing care to pediatric patients and their families
  • Perform comprehensive pediatric assessments, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
  • Manage pediatric medical-surgical conditions and recognize changes in patient status
  • Administer medications, enteral feedings, oxygen therapy, and other treatments in accordance with established protocols
  • Provide central line and implanted line care while following infection prevention and isolation precautions
  • Support breastfeeding and the safe handling of breast milk
  • Monitor and respond to dysrhythmias, hyperbilirubinemia, and respiratory needs, including BiPAP and CPAP management as applicable
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, pharmacy, therapy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Document patient care accurately in Epic
  • Float between pediatric units as needed while maintaining high standards of care and professionalism
